Targets: Years 5/6 — a lighter version of Newsroom Bootcamp, with similar objectives but pitched at a younger audience.

We watch some amusing examples of tv news stories — we have a stand up/move around news quiz (space permitting) — using a real news example, the children play detective to practice open/closed questioning — they break into groups to “interview” each other about news stories in their own lives — in groups, they “edit” their own programme choosing between different stories — they write their headlines on a deadline, and with video inserted breaking news interruptions — finally, they act as newsreaders to read headlines to the class.

Discover my Newsroom Secrets for yourself, for free ...

Try me for free — by signing up to my Newsroom Secrets!  Every month or so I reveal a secret based on my many years in a BBC newsroom — to help you and your teams with your own deadlines and on-the-day delivery, or simply give you ideas about how to bring training, a conference or Away Day to life.  Do take a look, or sign up, here.

Blogs don’t have to be long or boring — I reckon six snappy paragraphs does the job, and gives you something you will actually remember.
