Problem solving training
Deadlines, Decisions, Dilemmas is a problem solving and decision-making workshop.
It’s for business professionals who are bored by conventional training and want to try something different, something fun, something that gets measurable results… by lunchtime.
My clients range from senior managers at EasyJet to new recruits at American Express. They’ve learnt the art of agile judgement and decision-making – and they’ve discovered how to work faster and get more stuff done.
Decision-making training workshop, set in a TV newsroom
The workshop is based on a real-life TV newsroom experience and led by a BBC news reporter with years of experience on lunchtime news bulletins.
Journalists don’t do PowerPoint. Or flow charts.
Instead, you and your teams will experience the buzz of a newsroom. They’ll face the challenges posed by a lunchtime news deadline and make fast, real-time decisions while keeping their newsroom teams informed and onside.
Here are a few examples of what they’ll come away with:
- Pivoting skills, as news priorities change minute by minute.
- Clarity and focus under pressure, as headlines are written to short deadlines.
- Leadership and management. In the tough world of breaking news, when do we hold our own, and when do we give way?
- Agile judgement and decision-making skills as that lunchtime deadline gets closer by the second.
Your team will leave the course re-energised, with the confident ability to distil key information, make decisions and become more productive.Email here
A bit about me
Deadlines, Decisions, Dilemmas is led by me, John Young. I’m a journalist and newsreader with more than 30 years’ experience in the fast-moving world of BBC newsrooms.
My training techniques were honed at the BBC Academy, the flagship HQ of BBC training where I took a year out of busy newsroom to run courses on journalism, editorial values and production.
About the workshop
The length of the course is up to you. It could be a half day or full day workshop, or you may want the quick-hit buzz of a 60-minute session.
Between 15 and 25 people works well, but I can easily adapt the workshop according to your requirements.
I can come to you, or suggest venues if your teams would like time away from the office.
