Targets: exam skills — writing to a strict deadline — pupils with less than 45 minutes of class time.

Pupils are given a list of news stories with a range of detail, and must write a headline for each. Examples of headline sequences are provided, but their task is to think about tone, appeal, brevity and use of pictures — and write them against the clock. They then compare their work with what news journalists broadcast on the day.
