Confidence workshop … set in a TV newsroom

I’m a TV journalist who runs confidence workshops. If you’re a big fan of PowerPoint slides and theory-led training, it’s best to look away now because …

My workshop is based on a real-life newsroom experience, and can be delivered online or face-to-face.

It’s refreshingly different, and great fun. Your teams will be gently encouraged to step out of their comfort zone, take a risk and try new things … by lunchtime.

(Spoiler alert:) It’s going to be easier than they thought.

How does self-confidence training work?

Life in a TV news studio involves succinct communication and, with a lunchtime news deadline, quick thinking.  We’re often thrown in at the deep end, with just minutes to prepare and no time to worry about it.

In a supportive workshop environment, your staff will gain in confidence as they realise that braving the unknown is not as difficult as they imagined.

Here’s what they’ll learn:

  • The secrets of how TV journalists stay calm and controlled in the face of a looming deadline.
  • How to argue their case and debate which stories should make the live programme.
  • The ability to transform complex information into key messages.
  • Fast decision-making as breaking news comes in to disrupt everything.
  • Fresh ideas about teamwork and the art of clear communication.
  • Confidence that can transfer to their work life.

Let’s have a chat to discuss what you need. Call me on 07850 188620 or 01273 606246 and if you prefer to write…

A bit about me

I’ve been a BBC journalist and news presenter for more than 30 years.  Since 2013, I have shared the many ways in which the skills of the newsroom can be transferred to business.  I only left the BBC in October 2020, so the takeaway tips I share with you are bang up to date.

My training techniques were honed at the renowned BBC Academy, where I trained BBC journalists in editorial values and production.  My workshops are my own product, but based on my experience at the world’s most respected news organisation.

My clients range from senior managers at EasyJet to new recruits at American Express and nervous staff in smaller firms wishing they hadn’t been sent on an Awayday.

More about the training course

The confidence workshop can easily be adapted according to what your organisation needs.  I can come to your offices for a couple of hours, a half day or full day.  Or deliver in online via Zoom, in manageable bite-size chunks, with plenty of screen-breaks.

When it comes to numbers, groups of 15 to 25 work well, but I’m happy to accommodate larger or smaller numbers. It’s entirely up to you.

Call me on 07850 188620 or 01273 606246.
